Bill Frist: Boston Kitty Killer?
I found this article at Tennessean.com, via Taegen Goddard's Political wire. Apparently, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) is a confessed Cat Killer!! According to columnist Gail Kerr:
He fessed up in his 1989 book, "Transplant," to adopting cats from shelters when he was in medical school, treating them like pets for a while, and then using them in his research experiments.
Apparently, most of his animal killing happened right here in the Boston area, when the Senator was a medical student at Harvard. Frist writes in his book, Transplant:
"Desperate, obsessed with my work, I visited the various animal shelters in the Boston suburbs, collecting cats, taking them home, treating them as pets for a few days, then carting them off to the lab to die in the interests of science....It was, of course, a heinous and dishonest thing to do, and I was totally schizoid about the entire matter."
AH! So the Senator has the tendency to get so carried away with his work that he loses rational judgment? Is this why he broke all medical ethics by making a medical diagnosis on Terry Schiavo without even seeing her? As Kerr writes in her Tennessean column, it'll be interesting to see how he spins this in a Presidential race.
All I know is my kitty's staying indoors if the Senator every makes a swing through Boston (yeah, right, a Republican Presidential candidate in Massachusetts? Ha!).
