Celtics for Boston, Patriots for Somerville... Who Does Cambridge Get?

Mayor Tom Menino announced today that he has hired former Celtics star Dana Barros to head the city rec department. This makes me wonder about what seems to be a new trend of having former local athletic stars rebuild local youth programs.

As far as I can tell, it started in 2004 when Somerville Mayor Joe Curtatone hired Hall of Fame Patriots lineman John Hannah to not only coach the Somerville High School football team, but also to lead a process of rebuilding the city's youth programs. Then, under Hannah the City hired former Patriots defensive back Roland James to run the local Youth Center. James is still in that position while Hannah was run out of town after failing to accomplish much of anything.

While Curatone seems to favor Patriots in his city, it seems Menino has now adopted the Celtics. What's next? Will Kevin McHale move back to town and take over the Boston Public Schools?

So this makes me wonder... If Somerville gets former Patriots and Boston gets former Celtics, who do we get in Cambridge?

With all the yuppies around let's just hope it's not the Boston Lobsters...
