Curtatone Keeps on Blogging

Last week I wrote about Somerville Mayor Joe Curtatone's new blog, and all politics aside commended him for taking the rather risky challenge from the Somerville Journal to enter the blogosphere.

Although the pace is still slow-going, the third and most recent entry on the Mayor's blog address the biggest concern I raised. That is, I was afraid that the high rate of incendiary comments people have left could disuades Curtatone from continuing this endeavor. Today Curtatone writes:

One last note: There's a group of Swift Boat-style folks (or more likely, only one or two people who just keep changing their handles) who have been using the comments section to accuse me of all sorts of wrongdoing. Lacking even a shred of real evidence, they keep asking sinister questions that all sound like "Have you stopped beating your wife?" All of these questions have been fully aired in the pages of the Somerville Journal and elsewhere, and I'm not going to get into them again here, so they can keep asking, but I’m not going to respond.

I'm glad that Curatone has taken this stand, amd am excited to see that he plans to continue blogging. As I wrote last week, the blogosphere represents a new realm of accessibility that politicians should aspire to. I do hope, however, that Curatone is moderate in his determination of what is "Swift Boat-style" and still address critical but honest concerns that are presented by consituents on his blog.
