I Hate Robo-Calls

As the days have crept closer to the call-to-order in Worcester tomorrow, my phone has been ringing off the hook with the various campaigns asking for my support (how many times do I have to tell Gabrieli "no"?). While a number of them have had live people on the other end, it seems to me that a vast majority have been those pre-recorded, automatic calls. This is a phenomenon that Lowell Democratic City Committee blog and The Deval Experience have both commented on recently. The latter writes:

I've been getting phone calls all week, mostly of the automated kind; but there was one live one in the mix, on Memorial Day no less, from Mayor Tim Murray of Worcester. Some delegates make their own calls; others have endorsers call on their behalf. Since I'd made up my mind on my choices for all three contested races some weeks ago, all of this techno-selling is lost on me.

I too made my decisions weeks ago (or months, in the case of Governor and Secretary of Commonwealth) so the robo-calls are lost on me. Furthermore, since I don't have a land-line phone and registered as a delegate with my cell, these techno-pitches have been slowly depleting my valuable daytime minutes! On top of the delegate fee, transportation to Worcester, a room at Worcester State College and now this cell phone hit, the convention is turning out to be one costly affair for me!
