Joe Curtatone Joins the Blogosphere

Up in Somerville it looks like Mayor Joe Curtatone has staked out a little land of his own in the burgeoning Massachusetts liberal blogosphere. Responding to an offer from Kat Powers, editor of the Somerville Journal, Curtatone has launched "Mayor's Blog" which is hosted on the TownOnline servers. His posts have been a little slow going, with just two entries in as many weeks but as far as I can tell everything is actually written by the Mayor himself. As far as I know, the launching of this blog makes Curtatone the first Boston-metro Mayor with a blog.

Interestingly, almost every comment left on the blog is an attack on the Mayor and his administration. While criticism of public officials is fair game, the comments left here seem to be taking on the baseless and simplistic tone of those often left at the Somerville News website. While I'm impressed that Curtatone has actually taken the time to personally respond, I wonder if the Mayor will be less likely to continue blogging if such attacks continue. That would be a shame because, whether you're a fan of his or not, with this blog Curtatone is setting an example of the accessibility other elected officials should strive for.
