Free New Year’s Cab Rides from Cambridge

Friday, December 29th, 2006

Plan on partying in Cambridge for New Year’s Eve? Looks like you can use your taxi money for getting sauced!

According to the Cambridge Chronicle, the responsible citizens at the Cambridge Prevention Coalition will provide anyone partying in the City wit a FREE (yes, FREE) cab ride from 9 pm to 7 am on New Year’s eve/day. The cabs will pick patrons up at any alcohol-licensed establishment or residence and take them wherever they need to go (well, presumably home and not to another bar) for up to a $35 trip. The service is only available to people ages 21+.

Cambridge City Hall Moved to Somerville

Friday, December 29th, 2006

Regular readers of this blog may remember back in August when I went on some rant about the gentrification of Somerville in a post entitled “Why Not Just Annex Somerville for Cambridge?

According to my Sitemeter stats, that seems to have happened. Sort of. Except instead of Cambridge annexing Somerville, it was the other way around.

When did Cambridge City Hall move to Somerville?

Boston is still better than New York

Friday, December 29th, 2006

Despite my pride about living in Boston I still maintain close relationships with a number of relatives and friends who live in New York. They cover all the Jewey strongholds — New York City (all boroughs), Westchester County, and Long Island. Yes, I even admit that the man who raised me was a Yankees fan from Yonkers.

My New York family and friends always claim that the rivalry between our two towns is just a figment of our Bostonian imagination. They claim that it’s only those of us in New England who perpetuate this feud. They say that we produce the “Yankee Hater” t-shirts and get drunk and belligerent on our road trips to Yankee Stadium, but that they couldn’t care less about what we think of them. To my New York peeps, Boston is to them what Grace Ross was to Deval Patrick — irrelevant.

Bullshit!

Somerville Graffiti: Re-Elect Bush in 2008?

See on a pay phone in front of Taqueria La Mexicana in Union Square:

Re-Elect Bush 2008

As John Stuart Mills once said: “While it’s not true that all conservatives are stupid people, it is true that most stupid people are conservative.”

This may be the reason why I DON’T vote for Henrietta Davis

Wednesday, December 27th, 2006

The campaign to re-elect Cambridge City Councilor Henrietta Davis has posted this incredibly lame video of their “official campaign song” to YouTube. The video’s description reads: “Gosh darn it, VOTE for Cambridge City Councillor Henrietta Davis, already.”

If I DO vote for her, will that make you SHUT UP?

I wish I could embed it right here, but for some reason my Wordpress theme doesn’t like that.
